Lawn Pest Control

Enjoy Your Landscape again with Lasting Lawn Pest Control

At Spoon River Pest Control, Inc., we know the last thing you want this spring and summer is for insects to destroy your lawn. You spend so much time seeding it, watering it, and mowing it so that you can sit, relax, and enjoy the great outdoors. However, it just seems like such a waste to let insects, rodents, and other intruders ruin it with holes, brown spots, and dangerous nests. One thing to note is that maintaining a pest-free lawn is a marathon, not a sprint and that it takes time to eradicate yard pests. That’s where our trained, certified professionals will come in, eradicate the situation and then establish a designated plan to keep your lawn guarded and protected from new intruders.

For over four decades, our local experts have seen and eliminated numerous lawn pests from yards and commercial properties throughout Central & West Central Illinois. This includes problem pests, yard insects and lawn fungus with advanced techniques and technologies that offer eco-friendly and real results.

We primarily focus on the following, but are not limited to other pests that cause harm to your yard or landscaping:

Ticks

Ticks

Central Illinois and Spoon River county are saturated with ticks of multiple varieties. The diseases commonly associated with ticks in your yard and landscape include lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and a host of others. According to the CDC, when preventing tick bites, it is best to follow these procedures: know where to expect ticks, treat your clothing and gear with products that have 0.5% permethrin, use EPA-registered insect repellents, avoid areas that are wooded and brushy and walk in the center of a trail or path. Then, once home, check your clothes, examine gear and pets, shower soon after being outside and check your body including under arms, in and around ears, inside your belly button, back of the knees, on and under hair, between legs, and around your waist.

Asian Long Horned Ticks

Asian-Long-Horned-Ticks

According to the CDC, the Asian Long Horned tick is not as attracted to human skin compared to other ticks. However, it is still unknown whether or not germs can be passed from these ticks to humans. Unlike other insects who need a male to mate, female ticks can lay eggs and reproduce without the mating step. Typically, ticks are found in tall grass or wooded areas, but researchers are still examining whether or not this particular pest likes to reside in heavy, thick grass and wooded spaces or prefers vast, open ranges. To date, it has not invaded central Illinois, but in time, we will be dealing with it as deer, rodents, raccoons, possums, and other nocturnal vermin are known for spreading these pests around.

Lawn Grubs

While these grass-killing insects may be the number one snack for moles and other vermin, if not dealt with right away, can wreak havoc on your lawn. Lawn grubs derive from the beetle larvae family, often called “scarab beetles,” making up of over 30,000 species world-wide. Their peak times for feeding is during spring. When they begin feeding, they target grass roots, which in turn causes brown spots to form. The foundation underneath the sod becomes weak, resulting in “primary damage,” or sod that is easy to pull up. If you notice brown spots in your lawn, do not attempt to diagnose the situation yourself. Our certified, trained professionals have the tools necessary to remove these insects without harming your lawn in the process.

Mosquitos

Mosquitos

These blood-sucking insects are well-known carries of viruses, which cause a great deal of harm for humans. Don’t let them get the chance to breed on your property in stagnant or standing pools of water. Bug zappers, tiki torches, and bug repellants are only temporary fixes. We have the expertise to exterminate them for good to keep your habitat safe.

Other Lawn Pests
